Everything you need to know before your private tour of Morocco – visas, safety, money, food and more.
Booking & our tours
Are the tours private?
Yes. Every journey with us is 100% private and tailor-made: you travel only with your own group, with your own driver and expert local guides.
How do I book?
Send us a message by email, phone or WhatsApp – or use the “Plan my trip” page – and we will build your itinerary with you. When everything is right for you, we confirm your booking.
Before you go
Do I need a visa for Morocco?
Travelers from the United States, Canada and most Western European countries need no visa and pay no fee to visit Morocco as tourists. All you need is a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. Requirements depend on your nationality, so please check with the Moroccan embassy or consulate in your country before you travel.
Do I need travel insurance?
We highly recommend travel insurance. Check whether your health insurance covers medical care abroad, as many destinations ask travelers to pay medical costs themselves. Consider cover for trip cancellation, health care and emergency evacuation – especially if you visit remote areas. You can also register with your own country’s traveler program to receive travel advice and help in an emergency.
Do I need any vaccinations before I travel to Morocco?
Morocco does not require any vaccinations. Some travelers choose to follow the CDC recommendations, for example for hepatitis A and B or rabies. Travelers to Morocco generally do not run into significant health issues.
Are there any COVID-19 rules?
No. Since 5 April 2023 the Moroccan authorities have lifted all restrictions related to COVID-19, and the borders are open to visitors from all around the world.
Safety & culture
Is it safe to travel to Morocco?
Yes. Morocco is a safe country for travelers – safer than many destinations around the world, according to the World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report (2019). With its many sights and activities, it is also a great trip for the whole family.
What is the dress code in Morocco?
There is no dress code for men or women – feel free to wear what you like. The only exception is when you visit a mosque: you need to be fully covered and take off your shoes before going in.
How do locals behave towards visitors?
Moroccans are known for their hospitality. They are very friendly towards travelers from all over the world, will often ask where you are from and welcome you to their country. You will feel the famous Moroccan hospitality in every city and village.
Money & phone
Can I use credit cards in Morocco?
Yes. All major cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express…) are accepted in hotels, restaurants and larger shops – just tell your bank before you travel so your cards work abroad. Smaller shops and markets prefer cash, and some accept dollars or euros. Cash is still widely used in Morocco.
Dollar, euro or dirham?
The local currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD), which has been stable for many years. Banks exchange dollars and euros at the daily rate, and ATMs give you dirhams – just check the fees your own bank charges.
Will my phone work in Morocco?
Yes, but roaming can be expensive. It is much cheaper to buy a local SIM card (or eSIM) with data when you arrive – it is inexpensive and easy to find. Your guide or hotel can help you get one.
Food & health
Is the food and water safe?
Moroccan cuisine is famous for its flavors – couscous, tagines and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Food is generally safe to eat. We recommend drinking bottled water; tap water is usually fine for brushing your teeth.
